I was thrilled to recently have Dr. Steven Schutzman, an interventional cardiologist, as a guest on the show. One of the biggest takeaways for me was just how advanced medical technology has become, especially when it comes to heart procedures. I was blown away learning about how cardiologists can now go in through a small incision in the wrist or groin, thread a catheter up to the heart, and open up blocked arteries without having to crack open the chest. It's truly amazing what modern medicine can do. But the part that really hit home for me was Dr. Schutzman's emphasis on being proactive about your health, especially as you get older. He shared stories of patients who had ignored warning signs for years, only to end up having a major heart attack that drastically changed the trajectory of their life. And he stressed that it doesn't have to be that way - there are so many things we can do to get ahead of potential health issues before they become serious problems. As someone who works long hours in a physically demanding industry, I know how easy it is to get caught up in the day-to-day grind and neglect your own wellbeing. But hearing Dr. Schutzman's perspective really drove home the importance of making your health a priority, no matter how busy life gets. Things like regular exercise, a balanced diet, and staying on top of recommended screenings can go a long way in preventing major issues down the road. I also appreciated Dr. Schutzman's candor about the challenges of the medical field, like the long hours and emotional toll of delivering difficult news to patients. It was a good reminder that even the most skilled professionals are human, and that the doctor-patient relationship should be a true partnership. Overall, this conversation with Dr. Schutzman was a valuable wake-up call for me. It's easy to take our health for granted, especially when we're young and feel invincible. But the reality is, the choices we make today can have a huge impact on our quality of life in the future. I'm grateful to Dr. Schutzman for sharing his expertise and perspective, and I'm committed to being more intentional about my own health and wellness going forward. Listen to the full episode here!
